about

The stampede thunders on. Bison are back with their second album, Herd Mentality. Recorded at 2 Fly Studios with local hero Sheffield producer Alan Smyth (Pulp, Richard Hawley, Arctic Monkeys) this 11-track CD sees the now 10-piece band distilling the Bison party on shiny plastic for your delectation.

A step up from their debut The Beast with Nine Backs in terms of songwriting as well as production values, Herd Mentality contains 11 fresh pop songs encompassing swing, soul and country alongside the classic Bison ska sound. From HSB don't C's nine-to-five nightmare to Halfway's relationship trauma, Herd Mentality finds Bison's songwriters dealing with real life situations with sincerity and wit.

But you can put this CD on at a party as well as while you do the washing-up. The rhythms are infectious, the melodies are soulful and distinctive, and the horn lines are catchy as hell. The Abominator comes on like a more manic One Step Beyond, while Sponk is a horn-driven gonzo horror masterpiece. These songs will put a smile on your face and help you see in the dark, like pop carrots.

All hail the Bison. Join the stampede.
